My professional career started after my junior year at the University of Nebraska. I decided to sign a pro contract with the Texas Rangers. After four years of minor league ball I realized it was time to do something else with my life.
It took me a few years to admit that the slider and curve ball sent me back to the dug out to many times and that's why I was released. I made it as high as double A with the Tulsa Drillers of the Texas Ranger Organization. I'm pretty good at throwing strikes so the Padres took me on as their batting practice pitcher in 1983. The next year I got the break of my life when I was hired by the Major League Baseball Scouting Bureau. I've been with them for 24 years and truly love scouting as a profession. I must mention that The Pro Swing Camps are completely separate from my scouting responsibilities and are not in any way try-out camps; they are Instructional Camps for kids. My staff and I look forward to the summer camps, many of us did not have the opportunity to attend camps like these when we were kids, so we know how fortunate these kids really are. |
